Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

"This novel pays homage to all actresses. Through the passionate true story of Maria Inés Calderón, 'La Calderona,' the great theater star of Madrid during the Golden Age, Life of an Actress reflects the difficulties that all of them have had to face, as much then as now, for living the love of their profession in a world that fears powerful women.

During the era of splendor of comedy pens, theater comics were very influential: they wrote and directed their own work, and enjoyed fame. But, the price they paid was very high. That was the case with La Calderona: her career's success had her rubbing elbows with the nobles of the era and becoming King Felipe IV's lover, a romance that changed her destiny when she gave birth to the monarch's illegitimate son and was hidden away in a monastery to avoid a scandal.

Life of an Actress is the true story of a remarkable woman and her unstoppable fight for freedom. A great, important epic that takes us to a fascinating era and vindicates the key figure of an iconic actress from the Golden Age.
