Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A shocking portrayal, displayed with a fierce authenticity, about married life, old age, and family ties.

“In Piedad Bonnett’s writing I find all the virtues that I most admire in literature: depth and conciseness [...]. Readers of the world, you must read this book.” ¾Margarita Garcia Robayo

At sixty-four years old, Emilia is facing the remodeling of her kitchen. Her husband has decided this on his own, and she, who just wants to be left alone with her books, feels unable to resist. Bonnett starts with this casual, mundane, and banal event to build a facade of docile and dangerous dissatisfaction, and of women cornered by different types of abuse and silence. The passage of time, the weight that it holds, gentrification, and old age (ours and others), and the inability of really knowing those around us, infuse this novel and forces us to look where we don’t often want to look: to what we really are.
