Summary

This proceedings honours Dr. T.T. Chen for his outstanding contributions to the science and practice of extractive metallurgy and especially for his pioneering studies on the characterization of metallurgical products. Thus, the proceedings volume highlights the processing of copper, the electrorefining of copper anodes and the control of impurities such as arsenic, antimony and bismuth in copper electrorefining operations. New developments in the hydrometallurgical processing of zinc and precious metals are discussed. The treatment of titanium, chromium, molybdenum and tungsten feeds by either hydrometallurgical or pyrometallurgical techiques is reviewed with emphasis on new or emerging processes. The environmental aspects of metallurgical processing are discussed in depth, and new arsenic control technologies are highlighted. Numerous characterization studies are presented, and in fact, characterization of the feeds and residues of many of the new technologies presented in the book contributed significantly to the successful evolution of those processes.
