This book is designed to achieve three purposes. First, a common motif throughout the book is that for students to engage in political thinking and thus investigate important questions such as the nature of justice or the basis for happiness, they must learn to compare and to contrast their own views and arguments with those provided by others. The second major objective is to discuss the idea of a civil society. The final purpose is to explain the works of major writers in political theory.
