Conor R. Caffrey completed his PhD in parasitology at University College Dublin, Ireland. He was a Wellcome Trust Travelling Research Scholar to the Department of Tropical Hygiene and Public Health at the University of Heidelberg and a post-doctoral scholar in the Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco. Following a faculty appointment at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, he returned to UCSF to direct the Biochemistry and Molecular Parasitology Core of the Sandier Center for Drug Discovery. His research is multi-disciplinary involving both academic and industry partners, and is primarily focused on pre-clinical and translational drug discovery for tropical infectious diseases, in particular schistosomiasis and African trypanosomiasis. Paul M. Selzer studied biology, parasitology, and biochemistry at the University of Tubingen, Germany, where he also received his PhD in biochemistry. He spent three years at the Molecular Design Institute and the Parasitology and Tropical Disease Research Laboratory of Prof. James H. McKerrow at the University of California, San Francisco. During his career he has worked as a researcher and scientific manager for several pharmaceutical companies, and is currently employed by Intervet Innovation GmbH, Germany, MSD Animal Health. He is also a visiting professor and teacher in biochemistry, bioinformatics, and chemoinformatics at the University of Tbingen, and an honorary professor of the Department of Infection, Immunity, and Inflammation at the University of Glasgow, UK.
