Elizabeth Perkins was born and raised in Louisville, KY. She started traveling in 2008 when she spent a semester studying in the Dominican Republic. Four years later, to the surprise of her loved ones, she packed up and moved to Managua to begin working as a member of Witness for Peace’s (WFP) International Team. Never having been to Central America before, she faced a steep learning curve, but she has since mastered the public bus system and developed a soft spot for the crazy capital city.

During her two years with WFP she studied the way in which U.S. policy impacts Nicaragua and Honduras over time and regularly contributed to the organization’s blog and advocacy efforts with her findings. With the rest of the International Team, she also facilitated delegations of folks from the U.S. who came to learn from Nicaraguans about the relationship between the two countries.

When she’s not traveling, you can find Elizabeth trying to keep cool in the Managua heat, doing yoga, cooking anything from granola to Mexican food, teaching her Nicaraguan dog commands in English, or reading a good book in a hammock.
