A fundamental challenge for post-conflict recovery is sustaining and strengthening livelihoods. By degrading natural resources essential to livelihoods and by weakening access to those resources, conflict can wreak havoc on the ability of households to survive and recover. This book examines experiences from around the world in supporting post-conflict livelihoods and facilitating peacebuilding through natural resource management. Case studies and analyses identify lessons and opportunities for designing interventions in land management, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, protected areas, ecotourism, and other natural resource-based areas. The book also explores how to structure livelihoods assistance as part of an integrated approach to post-conflict redevelopment. The project has generated six volumes of case studies and analyses, with contributions by practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.
