Summary
This book introduces the reader to clinical neuropsychology through casedescriptions of adults that have suffered brain damage. The strength of the booklies in the broad view of the practice of clinical neuropsychology and theengaging case descriptions that convey a sense of the courage, humor, anddetermination to triumph over disability that many "ordinary people" demonstratewhen coping with the extraordinary stress of a brain disorder. Two introductory chapters on basic neuroanatomy, neuropsychological concepts, and assessment are followed by fourteen chapters focusing on differentdisorders. Each chapter includes sections on background theory andneuropathology, followed by a detailed case study. Some chapters highlight theclinical assessment and rehabilitation of common disorders such as head injury, epilepsy, aphasia, neglect, and dementia, and others emphasize research-basedassessments of less common disorders such as amnesia and the inability torecognize faces. Throughout the book, common neuropsychological tests aredescribed, and ethical, cultural, and other issues that confront healthprofessionals working with neurological patients are discussed. This book willbe of interest to students of clinical psychology and introductoryneuropsychology, health professionals that work with neurological patients, neurological patients and their families, and laypeople curious about mind andbrain. s
