No fashion, please! the rejection of traditional ideas of fashion and beauty characterises the exhibition at Kunsthalle Vienna (10 November 2011 29 February 2012) and this accompanying catalogue.The 19 featured artists reject traditional notions of fashion, gender and beauty, and explore the fundamental relationship between bodies and clothes, the dialectics between the form of the body and its appearance.The artists are rooted in the tradition of body art and reference installations, ceremonies, and rituals rather than conventional notions of fashion.In the context of the exhibition, clothes and other products of the fashion industry only figure as fragments of a narrative mise-en-scène thematising the dreams concerned with a changing aesthetic of the body and its ideals.
