Summary

In 1990 Patrice Vasteenberg bought the Vallery Castle, located just a couple of hours south of Paris in the region of the Yonne. He set himself the task of restoring this Rennaissance work of art, and making it a place dedicated to festivities. We owe this Rennaissance jewel to Pierre Lescot, to whom we also owe the Cour carrée and the Square courtyard of the Louvre.

With abundant illustrations, this book tracks the history of the castle's first owners, and their successors, one of whom being, marshal of France Jacques de Saint d'André. From the Condé to the Sade family, the estate went through a succession of owners, all having undertaken many changes throughout the 18th and 20th century. With Vallery's destiny being closely linked to France's History, the château hosted prestigious guests such as Henri the Second, Louis the Twelfth and Louis the Fourteenth.

Part of the book looks at the relationship between this castle and the and festivities and celebrations held there over the years. Gourmet dining, the art of fashion, art, dancing, music and fireworks; all the aspects of partying are investigated by Patrice Vansteenberg, who is dedicated to continuing this château's tradition, by bringing back to life one of the most beautiful castle's of Burgundy.
