A deaf girl that loves to dance. She hopes to overcome the obstacles of not hearing the music. The girls in Sophie's class learn what it is like for Sophie to adjust to life in the hearing world. In turn, the girls learn a life lesson through Sophie.
Catherine Gibson taught dance to preschool children most of her adult life. She decided to take sign language classes at the American School For the Deaf, in West Hartford, CT. Cathy thought that signing was beautiful and looked like a form of dance. She was introduced to the preschooler at the school for the deaf and decided to teach dance through sign language and body movements. She was so touched by the children and their spirit, she decided to write this children's book.
