After retiring from the FBI, where he was a secretary of J. Aunque la última copia desapareció en los años veinte, la leyenda asegura que trajo la desgracia a sus actores pues en ella actuaban vampiros reales, que los cines que la exhibieron se incendiaron, y que aquellos que la buscan desaparecen. Mientras salta del corazón de Hollywood a algunas de las ciudades más conflictivas de México, el detective se topa con los sobrevivientes de dos mundos: uno que lanzaba los desechos del cine a la basura, y otro que busca poseer un pedazo de historia a cualquier precio.
