Estocolmo, 1901. En el Grand Hôtel todo está listo para albergar el banquete de los primeros Premios Nobel mientras la dirección mantiene una reunión de urgencia para encontrar una solución a la pésima gestión que está a punto de llevar el hotel a la bancarrota. Hasta que alguien propone el nombre de una mujer: Wilhelmina Skogh, propietaria de varios hoteles situados junto a la red ferroviaria que recorre el país. Una mujer que cree en el trabajo duro, la disciplina, la excelencia en el servicio y en la capacidad de las mujeres para ejercer responsabilidades que hasta entonces les habían estado vetadas. Wilhelmina responde a la oferta con una carta en la que plantea que el hotel debe asumir una importante y costosa renovación para poder ser rentable. La dirección acepta sus propuestas y ella se traslada a Estocolmo. Enseguida conoceremos a las mujeres que la acompañarán en su aventura: Elisabet, vieja amiga y dama de la corte que es huésped permanente del hotel; Ottilia, camarera en uno de los hoteles de Wilhelmina que sueña con trabajar en Estocolmo; Margareta, jefa del servicio de limpieza, atrapada en un matrimonio abusivo... Un grupo de mujeres que a lo largo de la novela mostrarán sus secretos, sus sueños, sus amores... y, sobre todo, la férrea amistad que las sostiene.

A historical saga in the manner of Downton Abbey, set in the Grand Hôtel Stockholm, at the dawn of the twentieth century.

Stockholm, 1901. At the Grand Hôtel, everything is in place to host the first Nobel Prize banquet, while management is holding an urgent meeting to deal with the terrible administration that is about to bankrupt the hotel. Until someone mentions a woman’s name: Wilhelmina Skogh, owner of several hotels near the train tracks that run across the country. A woman who believes in hard work, discipline, excellence in service, and in women’s capacity to exercise responsibilities up till then forbidden to them. Wilhelmina replies to the offer with a letter, where she states the hotel must undertake an important and expensive renovation in order to become profitable. The management accepts her proposal and she moves to Stockholm. We immediately meet the women who will accompany her in her endeavors: Elisabet, old friend and lady of the court, a permanent guest at the hotel; Ottilia, a maid at one of Wilhelmina’s hotels, who dreams of working in Stockholm; Margareta, head of the cleaning crew, trapped in an abusive marriage... A group of women who will display throughout the novel their secrets, dreams, and loves... but above all, the ironclad friendship that sustains them.
