Individuals seeking a solid background in the basic principles and real-life equipment used in industrial mechanics today need a modern, advanced, industrial textbook with a practical hands-on approach. The text should also be useful for those already working in industry who want to enrich and expand their knowledge of mechanical equipment used in industry. FOR WHOM THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN This book was written to fill the need for an up-to-date, practical teaching resource that focuses on the needs of industrial mechanics, technicians, and engineers working with industrial mechanical and power-transmission products. It is based on feedback from students and instructors along with ideas from different industries with which I have worked over the years. It is designed to be used as the principal text for training the industrial mechanic in postsecondary vocational schools and colleges, on-the-job training, and apprenticeship programs. It can also serve as a real-world text for mechanical engineering or engineering technology. ORGANIZATION OF THIS BOOK Readability is my prime concern, so I have used a direct, straightforward approach along with detailed illustrations. Instead of separate chapters on safety and troubleshooting, I have integrated safety and troubleshooting tips in each chapter. This comprehensive approach encourages students to learn about the safety and troubleshooting components along with the basic information associated with a topic. Instructors can teach the material in the 12 chapters in sequential order or change the order of chapters to accomplish specific goals.
