The main aim of this book is to introduce the student to European integration, and its implications for both government and business. Throughout its half century of history, the European Union has fostered a strongly changing business environment, not only for its individual member states, but also European and non European firms. The main implications for business strategy in Europe will be discussed as well as recent developments including enlargement, migration and the possible entry into the Union of new member states, as well as the EU "s relationship with the United States and China. The emphasis of the book is squarely placed on contemporary issues and less on historic developments. Cases are presented throughout the book to illustrate the effects of various aspects of integration on business. The book can therefore be seen as an introduction to how the European Union stands today and the prospects for future development
