Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

“For them, the world was going to ruin. It was a vale of tears, and we were partly responsible for it.”

It’s early morning. Dawn is struggling to break through the wall of mist. At the foot of the mountain, six men are preparing to set off on a hunt. They are bound to each other by a mixture of friendship, lust for power, professional connections and financial interest. Their quarry: a legendary wild boar known as el Solitario.  Dombodán, the youngest of the six —a special case, delusional and lucid at once – narrates the events of a day that devolves gradually into tension, violence and frustration. As his account unfolds, he reveals the abuse and depredation that have permeated Tras do Ceo for years; in other words, the same qualities that rule our world.

In Behind the Sky, Manuel Rivas brings us a dark tale, noir in the sense of being radical, savage: a novel about a world in which humans are hunted down like animals and nature is despoiled. But this world is peopled by extraordinary individuals, the protagonists of a battered and imperfect resistance that continues to hold out through adversity.
