La historia de dos mujeres en busca de la libertad a través del siglo  XX.

Calles de Saigón, el sabor dulce de los mangos y los gestos sumisos  de las niñeras, el olor infecto de las cárceles de Hanoi, el color  dorado del pelo de su madre, un vestido verde que deslumbraba, y esa  manera tan suya de cruzar y descruzar las piernas que volvía locos a los  hombres. Luego la revolución cubana y más tarde las palabras inspiradoras de Simone de Beauvoir, que mostraban el camino hacia la liberación de la mujer. Finalmente, algunos años después, la rendición  de un cuerpo que no había aprendido a pactar con el paso del tiempo.

Évelyne Pisier quería contar la historia de su madre, y a través de ella  la suya propia; se había empeñado en recuperarla y no dejar que tantos  años de vida política, amor y lucha se olvidaran. Poco a poco, página a  página, y con la ayuda de su editora Caroline Laurent, la historia de  madre e hija fue creciendo y tomó tintes novelescos.

La tarea seguía su  curso, pero un jueves de febrero de 2017 Évelyne murió cuando aún  faltaban retoques al manuscrito. Caroline ha cumplido ahora la promesa  que un día hizo a su autora y nos entrega esta novela espléndida que  recorre el siglo XX y nos invita a seguir leyendo y luchando.

Memories are ghosts, they pierce our skin and our dreams. The streets of Saigon, the sweet taste of mangoes, nannies’ submissive gestures, the rotten smell of Hanoi prisons, her mother's golden hair, and the way she would cross and uncross her legs that made men crazy. Then the Cuban revolution and later Simone de Beauvoir’s inspiring words which exposed the path to women’s liberation.
 
Évelyne Pisier wanted to tell her mother’s story, and through that story, her own. She was set on putting it together and not let so many years of a political life, love, and struggles be forgotten. Page by page, and with the help of her editor Caroline Laurent, the mother and daughter story grew and took on fictional overtones. The task was still underway when in February 2017 Évelyne died with the book was still in need of final touches. Caroline has now fulfilled the promise she once made to her author and now presents this splendid novel that goes through the 20th century.
