Being able to read and correctly interpret a blueprint is a necessary skill in the industrial world today.Blueprint Reading for the Machine Tradesis a workbook that requires your responses. By writing your answers and solving the problems, you can more easily retain important information. No prior knowledge of blueprint reading is required, and no additional materials are required other than a pencil and an eraser. The first of sixteen units begins with the very basics of print reading, progressing to visualization, and then to multi-view drawings. Upon completion of this book, you should be well prepared to enter the industrial field of work. The authors use the successfully proven teaching technique of introducing new material, followed by an immediate application of the new knowledge through assignments. As new material continues to be introduced, earlier information must also be retained. Therefore, questions pertaining to previously introduced material will continue to appear throughout the book. A variety of questions have been used to stimulate your interest. These include short answer, multiple choice, true /false, and sketching. The book is written in a style that lends itself to classroom or industrial settings, and it also has been successfully used for self-teaching. This fifth edition ofBlueprint Reading for the Machine Tradeshas been expanded to include numerous optional math exercises and a mathematics appendix with formulas for right angle trigonometry, measurement of dovetails, measurement of vees, determining chords, and measurement over pins. Units 13 and 14, which focus on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), have been expanded to include many more illustrations and examples. All drawings in this edition include the latest standards established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Both US Customary Units (inches) and the International System of Units (metric) are used throughout the book. The ASME Y14.5M-1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard and the CAN3-X78.1-M83 (reaffirmed 1990) Technical Drawings--General Principles standard have been followed. These are both current standards as of this writing. A Solutions Manual with the correct answers and solutions is available from the publisher.
