Summary

Currently in development with CBS Films, this is the emotional and uplifting memoir of a woman who became a volunteer trainer for Daisy, a sweet yellow lab puppy, and her unique relationship with the inmate who is Daisy's partner in the Prison PUP program. When Sharron Luttrell, a journalist still deeply mourning the loss of her family dog, found out about a weekend puppy raiser program for a service dog organization, she knew it was just what she needed to help her move on. Through the Prison PUP program, civilians spend over a year caring for service-dogs-in-training on weekends, while a prisoner has the animal throughout the week. It seemed ideal; pick up a puppy on Friday, return it on Sunday night. No strings attached. Well, it turns out that there were stringsand they tugged at her every Sunday evening when she had to return "her dog" to prison. Weekends with Daisychronicles Sharron's year co-parenting Daisy, a loving golden Labrador, with Ryan, a convicted felon who had already spent more than half of his life behind bars. For six months, Sharron and Ryan cooperate to bring Daisy from playful puppy to loyal service dogbut when Sharron unexpectedly learns just whyRyan is in prison, her trust in him, and in her own judgment, is shattered. While Sharron has taught Daisy many things, she now realizes that Daisy has lessons to teach her as well. By learning from the puppy she set out to train, Sharron discovers her own capacity for compassion, forgiveness, and love.
