Summary

You Can Change Your Brain and Choose Your Life provides a historical overview of the popular Neuro-Linguistic Programing (NLP) movement and introduces Transformative NLP as developed by author Carl Buchheit. In this wide-ranging and illuminating work, Buchheit reviews the literature written by NLP founders John Grinder and Richard Bandler, as well as by their closest associates.

After Grinder and Bandler went their separate ways in the late 1970s, NLP divided into two major branches. Using interviews as well as primary works of literature, Buchheit compares and contrasts the different perspectives and methodologies of two main figures, Robert Dilts and Jonathan Rice. There follows a description of the development of Transformative NLP as part of the legacy of Jonathan Rice, and as compared to the methods used by the students and colleagues of Robert Dilts. There is also discussion of contemporary intellectual influences on Transformative NLP, including quantum physics and systemic constellations. Finally, there is a description of innovative methodologies that are extremely successful in practice.

You Can Change Your Brain and Choose Your Life offers a fresh perspective on and contribution to the field of NLP. It will be of great interest to students of conventional NLP and Transformative NLP, as well as to psychologists, mental health workers, teachers, historians, and philosophers. It will especially appeal to many people who may not fit into those categories but are interested in personal transformation.
