The Toad of Dawn is the dramatic story of how Dr. Octavio Rettig Hinojosa — a Mexican doctor with a crack cocaine addiction — came to heal himself by employing an ancient “treasure” almost forgotten for centuries ­— Bufo alvarius (the Sonoran Desert toad).
