This publication resulted from a conference of the same name at the Hermann von Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik at the Humboldt University of Berlin, which was held in cooperation with the GermanDocumentationCenter for Art History–Bildarchiv Foto Marburg. It focuses on diagrammatic forms of visualization of art-historical knowledge: from elements of tabular structures, ground plans of buildings, and composition sketches for paintings all the way to abstract representation of art history through time lines and topological mapping. This book explores the history of knowledge in art history from the perspective of media, which has hitherto received little attention.
