Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction.  Deutermann spent twenty-six years in military and government service, which included a Pearl Harbor tour of duty; his father was a Vice Admiral in the WWII Pacific theater, and his uncle and older brother were submariners.  He lives with his wife in North Carolina.
