Summary

DNN (formerly DotNetNuke) just his its 10 year milestone, and only continues to increase its user base. There have been over 8 million downloads of the DNN software, nearly 800,000 production deployments worldwide, and over 800,000 member registrations on www.dnnsoftware.com/.

Professional DNN 7 builds on the popularity of previous versions by providing thorough coverage of installing, configuring, administering, and developing modules for DNN. It greatly expands on the original editions, with 50-75% new and revised content.  It provides not only updates for the key new DNN 7 release but also adds extensive new coverage geared toward ASP.NET developers.

The current iteration of the software is V7 and it has undergone a significant transformation over the past 4 years. This includes the entire platform being migrated from VB to C#, an overhaul of the entire user interface and user experience, and dramatic improvements in functionality including support for social collaboration and mobile devices. The underlying technology platform has migrated from ASP.NET 2.0 to ASP.NET 4.0.  The company behind the software, DNN Corp, received venture capital funding in 2009 and has grown from 6 full-time resources at the time of the last book publication to over 80 full-time employees today, with offices globally. A commercial version of the open source software product was introduced 3 years ago and there are now over paying 2200 customers. In addition, DNN Corp acquired the dominant DNN App Store in 2009 which offers thousands of third party commercial add-ons for the platform supported by hundreds of ISVs.

In previous Professional DNN books, Shaun authored a popular introductory chapter covering the evolution of the DNN open source project. He will expand this initial chapter with information about venture capital funding, commercialization, and software business insights – which will be of interest to DNN enthusiasts as well as technology entrepreneurs.
