Summary

Postcolonial Resistance and Asian Theology presents a fundamental re-thinking of Asian theology. In particular, it focuses on theological indigenization in Asia in light of the postcolonial theory of resistance advanced by Homi K. Bhabha, among others. As a case study, the thoughts of three Indigenous Chinese Christian thinkers, Yaotsung Wu, Leichuan Wu, and Tzuchen Chao, whose had given shape to the theological indigenization movement in the first half of the twentieth-century China are presented. The author analyses the theological legacies of these thinkers as they are still being debated and criticized today within the concerned academic circles. Drawing attention to the otherwise subtle politics of the Asian theological indigenization discourse, this book addresses the relationship between postcolonialism and Asia contextual theology.
