Currently, school psychiatrists are having to work more and more frequently with students with health problems and chronic illnesses; there is a strong need, therefore, for them to be adequately trained in the knowledge and impact of pediatric health disorders on children's academic, social, and emotional progress and performance, all of which are critical components in the education system. This text will provide school psychologists with the most relevant and up-to-date information concerning conceptual models and applications of intervention and prevention strategies in pediatric school psychology. Instead of focusing on specific health disorders children face, it focuses on the more useful themes related to pediatric illnesses adherence, school reintegration, post-traumatic stress, pain and medication management and prevention strategies, such as developing multi-tiered programs, establishing and maintaining critical partnerships, and evaluating outcomes.
