Sander L. Gilman is a distinguished professor of the Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as Professor of Psychiatry at Emory University, where he is the Director of the Program in Psychoanalysis and the Health Sciences Humanities Initiative. A cultural and literary historian, he is the author or editor of over eighty books. His Diseases and Diagnoses: The Second Age of Biology appeared in 2010; his most recent edited volume, Wagner and Cinema (with Jeongwon Joe) was published in that same year.
William Bynum is Professor Emeritus, University College London. His previous publications include Science and the Practice of Medicine, The Companion Encyclopaedia of the History of Medicine, The Oxford Dictionary of Scientific Quotations, and the Penguin 150th anniversary edition of Darwin's Origin of Species.
Helen Bynum is a freelance historian and author of Tropical Medicine in the 20th Century. Together they have edited the award winning Dictionary of Medical Biography (5 vols.).
