The exhibition Naked Hollywood: Weegee in Los Angeles and accompanying catalogue document the lurid, irresistible undersides of stardom, fandom, commerce, and self-promotion in mid-century Los Angeles. In addition to approximately 200 photographs, many of which have never before been shown, the book will explore Weegee's related work as an author, filmmaker, and photo-essayist. Weegee's photo-book Naked Hollywood (published in hardcover in 1953 and released as a pulp paperback in 1955) is reproduced in its entirety in the book along with: archival documents revealing the marketing and reception of Naked Hollywood; a major essay by renowned art historian Richard Meyer on Weegee's important work from his Los Angeles years; and an illustrated chronology of Weegee's life and career in L.A., including film roles and self-promotional appearances.
