When World War II breaks out, Franziska Mangold is torn from her family in Berlin when she boards the Kindertransport, the train that secretly carried nearly ten thousand children out of Nazi territory to safety in England. Taken in by strangers who soon become more like family than her own parents, Frances (as she becomes known) courageously pieces together a new life for herself.
