This new edition of the classic gastrointestinal pathology text aims to once again provide pathologists and gastroenterologists with a comprehensive reference tool encompassing all aspects of gastrointestinal pathology.The emphasis is a clinically orientated one; the pathology of the GI tract is comprehensively reviewed in sections according to each anatomical part of the body, with the aim of aiding the gastroenterologist in his/her clinical decision making when treating patients. Gastroenterology is a very multidisciplinary area of clinical medicine, meaning that although management of a patient with GI symptoms is headed by the gastroenterologist, it is normally a whole team of medical professionals with relevant expertise whole are also involved, ie., for a patient with IBD the gastroenterologist would consult with many colleagues - a pathologist, an immunologist, an endoscopist, a surgeon, etc, etc. So the gastroenterologist who initially sees a patient will be in very close consultation with the pathologist who will be analysing cell and tissue biopsies, etc. Consequently, this book will be extremely useful for gastroenterologists as well as pathologists, as the gastroenterologists will use it to make clinical decisions for diagnosis and treatment based to a significant extent on what the pathologist reports.
