He is the author of The Medieval Stained Glass of Wells Cathedral, 2 vols, (British Academy, 2004), and recently edited the medieval volume in the three-volume History of British Art, 600-1600 (Tate, 2008). He is Vice-President of the International Board of the Corpus Vitrearum.
