Sharon Walpole, PhD, is Associate Professor of Education at the University of Delaware. She received an Early Career Achievement Award from the National Reading Conference (now the Literacy Research Association). Dr. Walpole's research interests include the cognitive aspects of beginning reading development and instruction, the design of instructional interventions, and the work of literacy coaches and principals. Michael C. McKenna, PhD, is Thomas G. Jewell Professor of Reading at the University of Virginia. He is on the editorial board of Reading Research Quarterly and was a member of the National Reading First Expert Review Panel. Dr. McKenna's research interests include comprehension in content settings, reading attitudes, technology applications, and beginning reading.
