This text introduces students to concepts that make them aware of the ramifications of their engineering decisions. The book is intended for engineering students of all disciplines. Specific topics covered include: notable environmental issues, sustainability for engineers, the Earth and the biosphere, global atmospheric concerns, water and soil pollution, risk assessment, energy generation and conservation, "green" energy sources, transportation and the environment, environmental impacts of development and buildings, water (sources, needs, conservation, treatment, and reuse), manufacturing, waste minimization, lifecycle assessment, design for the environment, and environmental impact statements. This text also covers the recently revised Criterion 3 of the ABET requirements so that the reader can pass their exams.
