Summary
The volume is the official book dedicated to the collection of the Clyfford Still Museum, Denver, CO, the permanent repository of approximately 2,400 works from the combined collections of Clyfford and Patricia Still (825 paintings, 1,575 drawings and 3 sculptures), which embody 94 percent of Still's life works, as well as his archives. The book offers an intimate view of the artist written by his daughters Sandra Still Campbell and Diane Still Knox, providing insight into Still's personal life, and recounts how Still's collections came to Denver from the artist's home in Maryland. Art historian David Anfam gives a scholarly and critical perspective of Still. Director Dean Sobel chronicles the origins of the museum and the complicated process of securing the collections, creating this museum, and unveiling Still's works. It includes more than 160 images, comprising highlights of the collection-- monumental paintings, works on paper, and other sculpture--as well as archival materials, many of which have never been published or publicly exhibited. It also includes an illustrated chronology, bibliography, and credits.
