This is a full history of this very important C&O terminal tucked in between the New River and the hillside at the junction of the Allgehany Subdivision from the east and the New River Subdivision from the west. For the first time, a complete chronological history of C&O's activities in this important terminal are treated, along with the buildings and facilities that were used here. Of all C&O terminals, Hinton is one of the most interesting, being a veritable citadel of mountain railroading, yet it seldom has been treated in articles, and the photographic record is very slim.
