It's the 1920s, and a little girl named Bo has an unconventional family in an unconventional mining village on the Yukon. In the course of one memorable year, Bo learns to cook biscuits, sees her first airplane come landing on the river by the mining village, and weathers through a rough Alaskan winter. She makes friends with the dance-hall girls and visits the old prospectors still staked out at their claims. And she explores her harsh, beautiful home on the tundra.
