Despite Iranian cinema's international recognition, there are still only a limited number of academic publications in the field that focuses beyond a certain strand of Iranian cinema that is most popular at international festivals. The scope of this book, is inclusive of other dimensions of Iranian cinema: it examines the work of filmmakers whose work has received little critical attention abroad, despite being widely popular and critically acclaimed inside Iran.
